ASTM A514 plate steel has a min-yield strength of 100 ksi/690 MPa. Its most commonly used as a structural steel in building construction, for cranes, or other large machines supporting high loads. A514 is used where a weldable, machinable, very high strength steel is required to save weight or meet ultimate strength requirements.
The ASTM A514 specification is the Standard Specification for High-Yield-Strength, Quenched and Tempered Alloy Steel Plate, Suitable for Welding used in applications where Yield Strengths of 100 ksi are required for plates up to 2-1/2" thick, inclusive. Plates > 2-1/2" and 6" in thickness have a minimum Yield Strength requirement of 90 ksi.
ASTM A514 A quenched & tempered, high-strength, weldable steel plate utilized in structural applications. Because of this materials high yield strength it is ideal for projects requiring a light weight steel without sacrificing durability or toughness. Applications include truck & trailer frames, heavy construction equipment, and crane booms.
A-514 / T1 Steel Plate. A514 T1 steel plate provides a high yield strength of 100 ksi min. with good weldability and toughness. Designed for a wide range of structural uses, as well as for machinery and equipment, A514 T1 Steel Plate offers optimum in strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, impact-abrasion resistance, and economy.
A514 Steel Plate ASTM A514 steel is a quenched and tempered alloy steel used in applications that require a particularly high yield strength. A514 has a minimum yield strength of 100 ksi (690 MPa).
Our ASTM A514 grade P steel plates withstand wear, their hardened surfaces defying any hostile abrasions. Using wear resistant steel plates in high-wearing areas diminishes the fear of damage to machinery, as it gives the same wear performance for every use. ASTM A514 Grade S plates provides good formidability and toughness in a high strength low weight steel. SA514 Grade B High yield Strength plate used in cranes, trailers, mining and hauling equipment all use A514 steel.
plate/sheet as high yield strength steels for cold-forming steel s. ASTM A514 is mainly used as high yield strength steels for cold-forming steel s.The ASTM A514 steel is equivalent to DIN QStE690TM, NFA E690D, EN S700MC and BS 75F70 steel grades.
Available Grades ArcelorMittal USA Plate facilities produce seven grades of steel in the ASTM A514 (structural applications) and ASTM A517 (pressure vessel applications) families. These are grades A, B, E, F, H, P and Q. They are chemically identical between A514 and A517 and also similar to the four T-1 grades as follows: Typical Applications
ASTM A36 PLATE STEEL is a structural quality product designed for use in welded, bolted, or riveted fabrications such as oil rigs, buildings and bridges.Produced with a min. yield of 36,000 psi, A36 plate can be used in the construction of a variety of lightweight structures and equipment where good welding properties are important.
As I recall, T-1 is a US Steel trade name for a high strength low alloy (HSLA) constructional steel plate. ASTM A514 is the designation that comes to mind which includes the composition for T-1. If 514 is the correct ASTM number, there is a table of alloys within the spec and one or more of these alloys are susceptible to brittle failure if thermally stress relieved.
A514 is a conventional quenched and tempered alloy steel plate designed for structural applications. A514 steel is available in a variety of chemistries: A, B, C, E, F, H, J, K, M, P, Q, S, and T. All of these grades have the same mechanical properties.

A514. The tensile yield strength of A514 alloys is specified as at least 100 ksi (689 MPa) for thicknesses up to 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) thick plate, and at least 110 ksi (758 MPa) ultimate tensile strength, with a specified ultimate range of 110130 ksi (758896 MPa). Plates from 2.5 to 6.0 inches (63.5 to 152.4 mm) thick have specified strength of 90 ksi (621 MPa) (yield) and 100130 ksi (689896 MPa) (ultimate).

ASTM A514 is a specification for 100 kilopounds-per-square-inch-yield, low-alloy, quenched-and-tempered steel intended for structural applications and is typically known in the industry as USS (United States Steel) nomenclature T1, regardless of the manufacturer. A514 grades are A, B, E, F, H, P, Q, and S.
Plate Grades Steel Plate Akron / Atlanta offers various steel stock for all applications. We are always getting in more materials to make sure to accommodate any job that can come through.
A514 Grade Q is for high yield strength, quenched and tempered alloy steel plate of structural quality in thickness of 150mm and under intended primarily for use in welded bridges and other structures.
Kloeckner is one of the only steel distributors in North America to stock higher-grade plate products, including armor, PVQ, and tempered plates. With a diverse product line that spans the complete plate group, we pride ourselves on the unparalleled breadth of our inventory.
Looking for suggestions on good cutting tools for use on A514 steel? The machine is a large horizontal boring mill. Many of the parts are cut out on a burn table before machining so there are hard areas along the edges. We have used some carbide but have had issues with breakage on the hard spots , a514 grades plate
